Ukraine Friends launches an urgent fundraiser in response to the missile strike on the Kyiv Children’s Hospital

19 July 2024

On July 8th, Russia launched a strike on Ukraine using dozens of different types of ballistic and cruise missiles. In total, 31 people were killed by Russian strikes, 22 of them in Kyiv. Among the numerous civilian objects that were hit was Okhmatdyt, a major children’s hospital in the nation’s capital.

Hundreds of children with difficult and rare diseases from all over the country were being treated there. The building where children were receiving dialysis was destroyed.

Medical staff and children were trapped under the rubble, and both young patients and doctors suffered from injuries caused by broken windows. The institution, which performs about 7,000 complex operations annually, including diagnostics and treatment of hematological diseases and bone marrow transplants for sick children, has ceased its operations.

Ukraine Friends is launching an urgent fundraiser to support those affected by this attack. As the number of casualties rises and more people need help, our team on both the US and Ukraine sides are closely monitoring the situation to identify and address urgent humanitarian needs.

Please support our efforts to help those affected by this unthinkable terrorist attack.
